2024 CVNE Monopole Rioja Blanco

Grape
100% Viura
Its Origins
The Cune label now occupies the mid-range of the Cvne hierarchy, but the name is based in the family's orginal hometown of Haro, Rioja Alta. It was there that Cvne were established in 1879 by the Real de Asúa brothers, Eusebio and Raimundo, and over the decades they became and remained one of Rioja's most reliable sources of high quality wine. Soon comprising three bodegas (Asua de Real, Cune and Contino) they maintained the distinctiveness of each, with the Cune label's stylistic integrity built around a balance of old and new style Rioja: clean, juicy fruit with oak influence and ageworthy acid and tannin structure.
What The Critics Say
89/100 Decanter, Ines Salpico
"Opulent, sweet nose with a tail of apple blossom, frangipane and white peach. A subtle mineral lining brings focus to the rich flavours of quince, pear, peardrop, lemon curd and banana." Drink 2025 - 2026
91/100 Parker's Wine Advocate, Luis Gutierrez (2021 vintage)
"The dry white 2021 Monopole is a wine that has been produced since 1915, the oldest brand for white wine in Spain. It's classical with varietal character, young and fresh. The grapes, mostly Viura, were picked between September 21st and October 19th, and the wine achieved 13% alcohol, keeping a pH of 3.3 after fermenting in stainless steel, without using any oak, to keep the primary, fruit and floral characteristics of the grape. It's primary, clean and fresh, with a tasty salty twist."
91/100 JamesSuckling.com, Claire Nesbitt (2023 vintage)
"A fragrant and medium-bodied white that has notes of lemon blossom, cardamom, Asian pears and lemongrass. Lots of freshness. Drink now."
