Germany
You may still hear the outdated slur that Germany’s white wines are somehow ‘bad’ because they can be sweet. This is wildly false on four counts: firstly, a whole fruit-bowl of defined, juicy sweetness can be completely delicious in wine (when balanced with fresh, mineral acidity). Secondly, this distinctive style represents one of the most dignified wine traditions in the world. Thirdly, not all German wines are actually sweet…or white. Finally, if still confused then stop reading immediately and drink a German Riesling with pork belly!
