Garganega
If you love Soave - Italy’s classic aperitif wine - then what you love is at least 70% Garganega. White grape Garganega remains close to home around Soave in Veneto but also in Sicily (called Greciano Dorato). Producers value Garganega for its vine health and quality at higher yields, while its moderate acidity allow wines like Soave to be deliciously dry but never harsh. The flavours are also slightly more generous than other Italian grapes, with the usual suspects citrus/green apple added to by riper apple and stonefruit, as well as notes of almond and flowers. This flavour depth also makes Garganega delicious in recioto-style dessert wines.
