2021 Brennan Gibbston Pinot Noir

Grape
Pinot Noir
Its Origins
The Brennan Family first arrived in New Zealand from Ireland on the SS Otaki in 1877. Sean Brennan's father, Dr. Sir Murray Brennan, was born in Auckland and studied medicine at the University of Otago. He was always drawn to Central Otago and the family first purchased land here in the 1970’s. In 1994, the Brennan family bought a plot of land in Gibbston and began establishing the vineyard, planting some of the first vines in this region, and haven’t looked back.
What The Critics Say
Selected in the "World's Best Sommelier Selection" of 2025 (2023 vintage)
The 2023 Brennan Pinot Noir was one of only four New Zealand wines to be included in the WBSS 2025 selection, with the following review: "Exuberant; sweet dark fruit bordering on candy cola with hints of black olives, salami and jamon serrano. This is a lovely and interesting Pinot Noir with juicy red fruits, violets, rosemary and clove on the palate. Dry but luscious, the warmth of alcohol is well grounded, lots of extract sweetness and very fine tannins. Still young, this wine will definitely develop more complexity over the next few years. Delicious with a mixed charcuterie platter, or Toulouse sausages served with braised lentils. It would also pair nicely with chicken pad Thai."
97/100 and Platinum, Decanter Magazine (2016 vintage)
"A perfumed, complex nose of cherry and strawberry overlaying pepper spice and mocha leads into a long, appealing palate. Satisfying Sunday roast flavours dominate, with some red fruit, florality and tannin on the mellow savoury finish."
96/100 Wine Orbit, Sam Kim (2016 vintage)
"This is sweetly fruited and seductively savoury on the nose showing ripe dark berry, smoked game, truffle, floral and cedar characters. The palate is concentrated and expansive, delivering plush texture and flowing mouthfeel, leading to a lingering delicious finish. Lovely maturity. At its best: now to 2021."
