2019 Gibbston Valley School House Pinot Noir

97 Points Bob Campbell MW

A seriously rich Pinot from a single vineyard in Bengido, Central Otago. Gibbston Valley are some of the oldest hands in Central, and this offering from the warm subregion of Bendigo is in a dark and full-flavoured style, with abundant extraction of ripe fruit giving intensity on release and age-worthiness in cellar. No disappointment for lovers of this old school style.

Its Origins

Gibbston Valley Winery is located less than half an hour’s drive north of Queenstown on the Kawarau River. Known as the “Valley of Vines” in an area planted extensively with vineyards and orchards and dotted with the remnants of original gold mining settlements. As one of the region’s founding wineries their focus is always on handcrafting premium wines and honouring the traditions that have made them a world-renowned destination, since releasing Central Otago's first commercial vintage in 1987. All their wine is unfined, unfiltered and sustainably produced.

What The Critics Say

97/100 Bob Campbell MW

"Delicious pinot noir, with a haunting perfume that suggests ripe, dark-fleshed plum, dark cherry, wood smoke, charcuterie and cigar box. A wonderfully complex wine with an absolutely seductive, silken texture. 05 NOV 2020." Drink 2020 - 2029

93/100 Parker's Wine Advocate, Joe Czerwinski (2018 vintage)

"The 2018 School House Pinot Noir hails from the upper slopes of the Bendigo subregion, at around 420 meters above sea level. Hints of crushed stone accent red raspberries and wild thyme on the nose, while the palate is medium-bodied, crisp and direct. The acids and tannins are youthfully edgy, lending a sense of freshness and vitality to the mouthwatering finish."
