A special wine, the Clos Des Cortons is a Faiveley monopole (exclusive to Faiveley) within the famous Grand Cru vineyard of Corton. With the majestic structure of this tannic and age-orientated wine, the flavours are full, the attack is strong and the length is long. Designed to cellar, this is a style amongst the most powerful and compelling in red Burgundy - but with Faiveley's silky and appealing style, it will be approachable without too long a wait.

Pinot Noir

Its Origins

Domaine Faiveley is one of the biggest domaines (115ha) in Burgundy and, many would argue, one of the best. This illustrious company has been based in Nuits St Georges since the days of Pierre Faiveley who founded the business in 1825. His son Joseph gave his name to the family business, to be followed by the first François, Georges who was instrumental in founding the Chevaliers du Tastevin, Guy who developed the business in the Côte Chalonnaise, François who has recently retired and now his son Erwan, born in 1979. The change of generation, enhanced by the arrival of Bernard Hervet as Managing Director, is clear warning of the intention to dynamise the business. Already there has been a notable expansion of vineyards under Faiveley’s control. Many of Faiveley's top wines are hand bottled with no filtration. This in turn results in clean, opulent wines that often show Pinot Noir at its best. Their concentration and richness are rarely equalled.

What The Critics Say

93-95/100 Vinous, Stephen Tanzer

"Deep ruby-red. Very dark aromas and flavors of medicinal black cherry, crushed rock and licorice pastille. Wonderfully rich and deep, combining a fine-grained texture with superb inner-palate energy. For all its power and concentration, this massive wine boasts terrific delineation. This will take a decade or more to reach its peak."

93-95/100 Burghound, Allen Meadows

"A fresh, cool and moderately restrained nose speaks of various red and dark berries along with plenty of iron-inflected earth, animale and pretty floral nuances. The lush, even opulent flavors certainly don't lack for size, weight and power as they coat the palate while buffering the notably firm tannic spine on the muscular, driving and wonderfully persistent finish. This too is impressively concentrated and built-to-age." Drink 2031+

17.5/20 Jancis Robinson

"Mid crimson. Elegantly perfumed with dark fruit and a fine depth of fruit framed by supple, compact tannins. Extremely moreish and finishes long and fresh. Very long. (JH)" Drink 2020 - 2032
