Icons of the Rhône, Tues 26th August
The Rhône region in Southern France is home to many of the most legendary wines in the world, and we'll be tasting some of them tonight! Most of these are from the exceptional 2022 vintage. These wines are immediately approachable, but also have serious cellaring potential for collectors.
In the Southern Rhone you'll find the famed Châteauneuf-du-Pape, where Grenache is king. We will be tasting two wines from Domaine Raymond Usseglio that we've never opened before. Their 'Cuvée Impériale', which is made from vines over 120 years of age. Followed by only the 4th release ever of their 'Les Apôtres', a special blend of all 13 permitted grapes with amphora-aging.
The Northern Rhone is home to the finest Syrah’s produced anywhere. Here the steep rocky vineyards rise directly from the river, providing an ideal terroir. Syrah is the only permitted red variety here in iconic appellations such as Cornas and Côte-Rôtie. We will be tasting two very special Cornas from the great Domaine Lionnet. With only 2.2ha of vines these are extremely hard to find anywhere in the world.
Three incredible Côte-Rôtie from the legendary Domaine Rostaing are next. Their classic 'Ampodium' made from a blend of different sites across the appellation, followed by two of their rarest single vineyard Côte-Rôtie; La Viaillère and Côte Blonde. We have never had the opportunity to taste either of these special bottlings before.
We finish with something very different, yet closely connected. One of Australia's greatest wines, the iconic Clonakilla Shiraz Viognier from Canberra. This is THE benchmark for the style, designed of course after their love of Côte-Rôtie! This years release won Australian Shiraz of the year, so we thought we'd taste it directly against the finest of France.
Don't miss out on a seat for this very special evening. We will be tasting;
2022 Domaine Lionnet Cornas 'Pur Granit' ($130)
2022 Domaine Lionnet Cornas 'Terre Brulée' ($130)
