A sparkling Methode from a quality Hawkes Bay producer that is "simply delicious". Chardonnay and Pinot Noir wines were aged on lees for 18 months before disgorging, creating a Champagne style of complex toasty citrus and fine effervescence. Great boutique value for this price.

Its Origins

Squawking Magpie Owner and Director Gavin Yortt planted the main Woodland’s vineyard in 1995, with further holdings in 2002 extending the focus on Hawkes Bay classic grapes such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. They are members of Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand and maintain a strong focus on cellaring wines and a quality-driven (rather than brand-driven) market strategy, which begins with rigorous vineyard management. Though not shouting from every shelf, on quality-for-value Squawking Magpie wines are often among the best Hawkes Bay has to offer.

What The Critics Say

4 Stars and Recommended, Cuisine Magazine 2015 (previous release)

"A Hawke’s Bay sparkling chardonnay of generous character, just right with seafood canapes. The nose of stonefruits, wax and brioche is immediately inviting, and its tastes intense and clean with a balanced, firm finish. “Simply delicious” was Andrew Parkinson’s verdict."
