2022 Doisy-Daene Barsac (375 ml)

A stellar player in Barsac that Parker called "one of the leaders among the deuxieme crus." With a history of superb wines that transport drinkers on release and improve for decades, many feel this wine deserves a Premier Cru status. The wines of Barsac can also be labelled 'Sauternes' and in the past this was common, but today Barsac has a reputation that is perhaps even finer. An elegant wine that is perfectly formed, deeply rewarding and far better than this modest price.

Its Origins
It takes the second part of its name from an English gentleman who bought it when the original Doisy estate was split up in the 19th century. Doisy-Daëne was extended in the 1950s, with the purchase of a parcel of vines that came from what is now Château Doisy-Dubroca, and there are now 15 hectares of vineyards planted with 70% Sémillon, 20% Sauvignon Blanc and 10% Muscadelle. The property is owned by Denis Dubourdieu, a legendary figure in Bordeaux wine circles, especially for the way in which he has revitalised the reputation of the region’s dry white wines. As a world-renowned oenologist Denis consults widely for other white wine producers, understandably as he carries the title of Professor of the Faculty of Oenology at Bordeaux University, and, with his son Fabrice, has taken Doisy-Daëne to new heights of excellence.
What The Critics Say
95-97/100 Vinous, Neal Martin
"The 2022 Doisy-Daëne has an intense bouquet that blossoms in the glass: dried honey, quince and honeysuckle, with light saffron scents emerging with time. The palate is brimming with tension, razor-sharp acidity, quince and tangerine, leading to a slightly peachy, vivacious finish. What a wonderful "DD" from Jean-Jacques Dubourdieu."
94-96/100 Wine Cellar Insider, Jeff Leve
"Made from 100% Semillon and with 150 g/L residual sugar. Vibrant, sweet, mineral-accented, pineapples, vanilla, lemon curd, yellow plum, and honey are on fire here! Ageing starts with 10 months in oak barrels, this is followed by 9 months in stainless steel tank before bottling. Perfectly balanced between its sweet and fresh side, this is a serious, sweet treat!" Drink 2025 - 2050
93-95/100 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
“The 2022 Doisy-Daëne is all class. Rich, layered and super-expressive. Dried flowers, coconut, chamomile, apricot and dried ginger all grace this deep, beautifully layered Barsac." Drink 2027 - 2047
