Its Origins
Chateau Vermont is a historical property of the Entre-Deux-Mers area. In 1874, it was listed as a "Premier Cru" of the Entre-deux-Mers (Guide Féret 1874 -3rd edition). The estate is now run by husband and wife David and Elisabeth Labat - the 4th generation of the family winegrowers. Chateau Vermont is located in the historic and viticultural heart of the Entre-deux-Mers, a hilly region nicknamed Bordeaux Tuscany with its magnificent landscapes and sunsets. Located 35 km from Bordeaux, the specificity of Chateau Vermont is that it is bordered by the Garonne and Dordogne rivers - the two "seas". Planted in the shape of an amphitheater, the vineyard - entirely drained - is located on the high limestone plateau of the Entre-deux-Mers between 70 and 100 meters of altitude. The red vines are planted high up on the hilltops, on deep clay soils (vein of Pomerol) with limestone: a great terroir for Merlot.
What The Critics Say
91/100 James Suckling
"This is attractive and delicate with a medium body and polished texture. It shows an array of blackberries and blueberries as well as violets, light tobacco and walnuts. Nicely shaped and structured with firm tannins and a flavorful finish. Drink or hold."
91/100 Wine Enthusiast, Roger Voss
""Ripe and smoky with wood aged flavors, the wine is full bodied and structured. Blackberry flavors and a cut of acidity are an attractive contrast to the wine's texture. Drink this wine from 2025."
90/100 Jeb Dunnuck
"Mostly Merlot, the 2020 Château Vermont La Grande Cuvee has lots of ripe black cherry, tobacco, and chocolaty notes to go with a medium-bodied, elegant, incredibly seamless style on the palate. I love its tannins, as well as its balance, and it's perfect for enjoying over the coming 5-7 years or more."
