2020 Squawking Magpie Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc

4.5 Stars Richard Caro
In stock
An award-winning Sauvignon Blanc from the Marlborough, made by the iconic Hawkes Bay label Squawking Magpie. Crunchy melon and citrus characters enhance the deep refreshment and crisp acidity that is classically Marlborough. A great compliment to their Hawkes Bay range, the Squawking Magpie is very nice for the price.

Its Origins

Squawking Magpie Owner and Director Gavin Yortt planted the main Woodland’s vineyard in 1995, with further holdings in 2002 extending the focus on Hawkes Bay classic grapes such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. They are members of Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand and maintain a strong focus on cellaring wines and a quality-driven (rather than brand-driven) market strategy, which begins with rigorous vineyard management. Though not shouting from every shelf, on quality-for-value Squawking Magpie wines are often among the best Hawkes Bay has to offer.

What The Critics Say

5 Stars and #3 Spot on Cuisine's Top 10 Sauvignon Blanc (2018 vintage)

"Delicious aromas of snow peas and citrus blossom announce this wine. The mid-palate is generous, yet the wine retains freshness with a well-managed zesty and flinty structure that nicely complete the package." Drink 2018 - 2020

90/100 Bob Campbell MW (2014 vintage)

"Delicate Sauvignon Blanc with appealing purity and grapefruit, guava and subtle passion fruit flavours. Fresh and appealing wine with an ethereal texture and good varietal definition."
