Bernard Fouquet Aubuisieres Vouvray Brut NV

Serious bubbles that is consistently the "best value in its appellation". The Chenin Blanc of Vouvray brings riper citrus and tree fruit to the bready flavours of Methode Traditionelle and racy, mineral acidity from the Loire Valley soils. Not so much like Champagne as arguably MORE than Champagne: more flavour, more ripeness, more minerality - just far cheaper. Try this!

Its Origins

After gaining experience in Alsace and Burgundy, Bernard Fouquet established his own winery in 1982 in the Loire, focussed on the Chenin Blanc grape. He soon created a trial and error knowledge of his terroir and by the mid-late 1990s, when Vouvray had a series of stellar vintages, Fouquet wines were among the foremost in the world market for the price. With an emphasis on purity and use of stainless steel, Fouquet aims to capture his respective terroir characteristic in each style: mainly calcareous clay in his dry and dessert wines, mainly flint/silica in his demi-sec and sparkling wines. Today Fouquet’s labels remain inexpensive but are considered to be among Vouvray’s best at any price.

What The Critics Say

Wine Advocate, David Schildknecht

"The latest rendition of Aubuisieres Non-Vintage Vouvray Brut Methode Traditionelle smells of ripe melons and narcissus, with a whiff of snuffed candle wick. Pineapple and lime join the melons on a juicy, delicate palate, with hints of salt as well as pungent citrus zest and smoke adding to the invigoration conveyed by a fine stream of bubbles. I was surprised to find the finish entirely satisfying and fruit-filled despite there being a mere 2 grams of residual sugar. The latest installment of what is surely the consistently best value in its appellation."

17/20 Jancis Robinson MW

"85% is from the 2018 vintage, which was vinified in stainless-steel tanks. 15% is from the 2017 vintage, vinified in five-year-old French oak barrels. Secondary fermentation in bottle was for 12 months. Bright pale greenish gold. Really appetising baked-apple nose. Rich, medium-dry palate entry and really appetising, clean finish. Opens out in a peacock's tail on the finish and it's really clean and fresh. Not remotely sickly with a very fine bead. Light and gorgeous hint of toffee on the finish."

Gilbert and Gaillard

"Pale gold. Lovely nose of white fruits and dried fruits with a touch of citrus and floral undercurrents. The palate displays beautiful freshness and precise, clean aromas of white fruits with abundant mousse. A user-friendly wine that makes a perfect aperitif."
