2022 Stonecroft Gimblett Gravels Zinfandel
Grape
Zinfandel
Its Origins
The first winery to be established in the Gimblett Gravels Wine growing District, Stonecroft is a small boutique winery owned by Dermot McCollum and Andria Monin, who bought the property in 2010 and live on the Roy’s Hill Vineyard with their two children. Stonecroft is well known for its Syrah, Zinfandel, Gewürztraminer and Chardonnay wines, and has the claim for the oldest Syrah vines in the country! Only organic practices are used and both the two original vineyards and the winery are fully certified organic with AsureQuality. The third vineyard is in conversion to organic status. Total production is small, with only 2,000 to 2,500 cases produced annually.
What The Critics Say
93/100 and rated Excellent, Cameron Douglas MS (2019 vintage)
"A delicious wine with flavours of cherry and milk chocolate, five spice and blackberry flesh, earthy qualities with a dry stone and sandy soil then oak. The ageing in American oak layers in a classic nuance of coconut and baking spice and a touch of wood smoke. Tannins are bold and impressive, polished and abundant, acidity adds freshness and length to the palate. Best drinking from mid to late 2024 through 2030+."
91/100 Bob Campbell MW
"A light, fresh, vibrant and high energy zinfandel with typical cranberry, and not so typical dried herb flavours. Elegant rather than blockbuster wine in an easy-drinking style. 28 NOV 2023." Drink 2023 - 2028
