Its Origins
Stonestreet Estate Vineyards stands as one of the most extensive mountain estates in the world and is a testament to the quality of high-elevation winegrowing in California. Here one finds a collection of distinctive single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignons, Chardonnays and Sauvignon Blancs — wines carved from an extreme landscape. Planted high atop Black Mountain, the vineyards are located in the eastern portion of the Alexander Valley AVA. Climbing from 400 to 2,400 feet above sea level, Stonestreet Estate is a patchwork of peaks, valleys and ridges defined by high elevations, volcanic soils and cool maritime breezes. From top to bottom, the property possesses more than 20 soil types and 20 temperature zones. To ensure the utmost quality and authenticity, the estate is divided into 235 separate vineyard blocks and sub-blocks. Each section has its own specific rootstocks, varieties, clones and viticultural protocols matched to the complexities of the terrain. From these divergent terroirs, winemaker Lisa Valtenbergs crafts site-specific single vineyard wines each harvest. Additionally, the Stonestreet portfolio showcases the Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, the Estate Chardonnay and the Estate Sauvignon Blanc — a collection of expressive cuvees emanating from the most highly prized vineyard blocks on the mountain during a given vintage.
What The Critics Say
92/100 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
"The 2019 Chardonnay Estate is plush, creamy and super-expressive. Apricot, mint, chamomile and light pastry notes all grace this smooth yet understated Chardonnay from Stonestreet." Drink 2022 - 2027
92/100 Jeb Dunnuck
"Lots of toasted bread, chalky minerality, dried pineapple, and white flower notes emerge from the 2019 Chardonnay Estate, a medium-bodied, balanced, juicy Chardonnay that shows the classic style of this estate beautifully. It picks up a kiss of nuttiness and subtle oak with time in the glass and is a terrific appellation release."
94/100 and Editor's Choice, Wine Enthusiast (2018 vintage)
"From grapes grown between 400 and 1,800-feet elevation, this impressive white overdelivers on its price point, showcasing the beauty of the site. Graham cracker, honeycomb and stone fruit contribute to a rich midpalate of complex concentration and length, finishing balanced and bright in underlying acidity."
