A gorgeous Syrah from organic soils in the sunny Rhone village of Ventoux. This slopes of Mount Ventoux lie slightly higher than other Southern Rhone villages, and the slow ripening in cooler sunlight — like the microclimates from which Fondreche select this special cuvee — imbue red wines with freshness as well as deep fruit flavours. Grown organically and bottled without added sulfites, the team at Fondreche also successfully experiment with egg vessels and other modern and ancient techniques to capture the effortless charm of the local style in a superbly crafted, high-quality expression. A great new addition to our range!

Its Origins

"A benchmark estate rooted in sustainability and Rhône tradition. Located at the base of Mont Ventoux, Domaine de Fondrèche has become a symbol of quality and precision winemaking in the southern Rhône Valley... The estate benefits from a mosaic of soils—limestone, marl, clay, sand, and stony debris—and a Mediterranean climate with strong day-to-night temperature variation. This combination enhances slow, balanced grape ripening, resulting in vibrant wines with remarkable freshness and finesse. The main grape varieties—Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Roussanne, Clairette, and Grenache Blanc—are cultivated with great care to preserve their identity and reveal the essence of the terroir... Fondrèche practices a holistic, eco-friendly viticulture that emphasizes biodiversity. Cover crops, minimal chemical input, composting, and manual vineyard work all support the vitality of the vines and the soil. In the winery, native yeast fermentations, minimal intervention, and tailored aging in concrete tanks, stainless steel, or neutral barrels ensure that each cuvée reflects its origin with authenticity and precision." What The Critics Say

94/100 James Suckling

"A well-crafted, textural and well-driven blend or syrah and mourvedre with aromas of dark cherries, currants, roasted meat, peppercorns and some stones. It’s medium-bodied with fine, firm tannins. It is well-built, with a solid frame of tannins coating the palate. Dense with dark berries and loads of spices. Plenty of energy and verve with a focused, long and spicy finish. From organically grown grapes. Try from 2025."

89-91/100 Parker's Wine Advocate, Joe Czerwinski

"The Syrah-based 2022 Ventoux Persia (it includes 10% Mourvèdre) was aging in a mix of concrete eggs (70%) and new barriques (30%) at the time of my last visit (July 2023). Hints of pencil shavings and crushed stone appear on the nose alongside scents of blueberries and cherries. It's medium to full-bodied, framed by silky tannins and bright acids, showing impressive intensity and balance on the long finish." Drink 2024 - 2035
