2022 Gerard Bertrand Heritage Tautavel

92 Points John Caro
In stock
A ripe and juicy red from the village of Tautavel, in the Cotes de Roussillon of Mediterranean France. Here stony soils, shelter from rain and altitude provide a magnificent climate for the modern Southern French style. Ripe Syrah leads, with Grenache filling in and local Carignan adding extra colour and structure. Enjoy now or cellar, this is superbly drinkable and serious value at this price.

Its Origins

Wine Enthusiast named his winery Europe’s best in 2011, but Gerard Bertrand began as a rugby player representing France and Narbonne. It wasn’t until the early death of his father that he returned to take the reigns of the family operation, Domaine de Villemajou in Boutenac, Corbieres. He soon identified the potential of the Languedoc-Roussillon to produce rich yet bright, modern wines suited to world market trends and from there began acquiring labels and properties across the region. Balancing an organic and increasingly biodynamic viticulture with an evangelical zeal for exporting his Mediterranean ‘Art de Vivre’, Gerard Bertrand has quickly become one of the most important champions of that which epitomises Southern French wine of today: superb quality in quantity.

What The Critics Say

90/100 Wine Enthusiast, Reggie Solomon

"Perfumed aromas of violet blossom, red currant, red raspberry tart, white nectarine skin and dried cranberry waft from the glass. The palate is dry and velvety with tannins that ride atop of the fruit structure in balanced proportion. his is a good, hearty wine that would spruce up a dinner party or Tuesday evening at home."

92/100 James Suckling (2021 vintage)

"Red cherries, plums and sweet spices on the nose. Medium body with creamy tannins. Round and velvety texture at the center with a caressing touch of red fruit in the finish. Drink or hold."

91/100 Parker's Wine Advocate, Joe Czerwinski (2020 vintage)

"A blend of Grenache, Carignan and Syrah, the 2020 Côtes du Roussillon Villages Tautavel An 560 features appealing raspberry and cherry aromas, even some delicate rose and strawberry notes. It's oaked, but not over-oaked, full-bodied, supple and a bit creamy textured in the mouth, finishing long and lush." Drink 2022 - 2027
