Italian food has no shortage of olive oil, which gives the country a passionate love of wines with enough acidity to clean the palate. The result is that even reds from Italy are cut like an Armani suit (shoulder pads notwithstanding). Look for only moderate richness with balance, vibrancy and charming complexity.
