Campbells Rutherglen Muscat
Grape
Muscat a Petit Grains Rouge (Rutherglen Brown Muscat)
Its Origins
With five generations and 140 years of family winemaking, the Campbells have forged a reputation as a benchmark Rutherglen winery. Today, winemaker Colin Campbell and his brother, viticulturist Malcolm, are the custodians of the family tradition, along with their wives Prue and Jenny and their children. The jewels in their crown are the luscious Rutherglen Topaques (formerly known as Tokays) and Muscats which are considered to be amongst the world's richest wines.
What The Critics Say
92/100 Halliday's Wine companion, James Halliday
"Light, vibrant colour; the palate is crammed with a mix of raisins, burnt toffee and glace fruits, the finish long and harmonious. Gold medal Decanter International Wine Challenge '10."
92/100 Parker's Wine Advocate. Lisa Perrotti-Brown
"Medium amber-brown colored, the NV Classic Rutherglen Muscat gives pronounced notes of dark brown sugar, plum pudding, roasted walnuts and raisin cake with a whiff of coffee. Very, very sweet, full and unctuous in the mouth, it has crisp balancing acid and a very long treacle and nut finish. Drink it now. The Rutherglen fortified wines are stored in seasoned 450 liter oak casks and a solera system is used to mature the wines. The age of the wines varies from 5- 25 years on average."
17.5/20 JancisRobinson.com
"Colossal concentration to the nose, such impressive flavour - honey, thick treacle, fresh floral hints, dried figs, sweet coffee and excellent perky acidity. Outstanding. (RH)"
