2024 Forrest Marlborough Arneis

Grape
Arneis
Its Origins
Forrest wines was started in 1988 by doctors John and Brigid Forrest, focused on planting in Marlborough’s Renwick but including some expansion to joint venture Cornerstone in Hawkes Bay’s Gimblett Gravels. Though Brigid is a medical rather than scientific doctor, she was and is equally involved in the envisioning and running of this hands-on operation. Nonetheless, John’s immense energy and former doctorate in molecular biochemistry has made him not only one of the most well-known but technically expert of New Zealand winemakers. Experimental too, as today the sprawling Forrest range explores many terroirs, mainly in Marlborough, while taking credit in the ‘Doctor’s’ range for early ventures into new varieties such as Arneis and Gruner Veltliner, as well as successful naturally low alcohol styles of Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc.
What The Critics Say
92/100 Cameron Douglas MS (2022 vintage)
"Aromas and flavours of white peach and apple, there’s a citrus and mineral quality, some white flower scents and a refreshing lifted bouquet. Delicious on the palate with flavours that mirror the bouquet, plenty of salivating acidity enhancing the citrus and apple flavours. Dry, balanced, well made and ready to drink."
91/100 Raymond Chan Reviews, Candice Chow (2022 vintage)
"Bright, even, pale straw yellow. This has a gently expressive bouquet penetrating stonefruit, pear, basil, dill and citrus aromas. Medium-light bodied, dry to taste, aromas of pear and nectarine intertwined with grapefruit, unfolding zest, basil and dill herbaceous details. The wine shows concentration and depth of flavour; acidity is lively and balanced, providing focus and drive and a crisp mouthfeel."
