Cloudy Bay Pelorus Rose NV

A seriously good Rose bubbles from Marlborough. Cloudy Bay are old hands in the region and still making world-beating wine -- like this rare example of local Rose bubbles. Made from Pinot Noir it is stylishly poised and dry, with delicate red berry against sophisticated toasty spice nuances. A great celebration and aperitif bubbles, but even better with crayfish.

Pinot Noir Chardonnay Blend

Its Origins

The Pinot Noir component that went into this wine was from 3 caned vertically shoot positioned vines grown in the Central Wairau Valley. The rest of the components came from our various selected subregions in the Wairau valley. Using the méthode traditionelle, the core of this wine was Pinot Noir that was destemmed and soaked for just the right amount of time to extract the delicate pink colour. After pressing, it was fermented to stainless tank and then blended with other Pinot Noir batches to give the savoury and complexity that this variety can offer. Following a spontaneous malolactic fermentation the wine was left to age 2 years on yeast lees before disgorgement.

What The Critics Say

94/100 Bob Campbell

“Reasonably deep copper colour. Full-flavoured wine with hints of biscuit and strawberry. Dry, but not austere, with a rich texture and lengthy finish. Classy sparkler with character.”

4 Stars Cuisine

Rosé sparkling is a recent addition to CloudyBay’s Pelorus range. It’s a pale coppery wine with a lively creaming bubble. Strawberry aromas and some savoury earthy notes mark the nose, and a mealy, lightly yeasty thread adds dimension. It tastes smooth, lingering and complete, finishing savoury and dry.
