2022 Mora & Memo Cannonau di Sardegna

A stylish new red from Sardinia. Cannonau is the local name for Grenache, a grape made famous by its plantings in France and Spain but which may originate on this lesser-known Italian Island. An impeccably modern example, the Mora & Memo is medium-light in colour with red fruit flavours that are both bright and savoury, and a sophisticated texture of fine tannins. A versatile food red, this Sardinain Grenache is a cool new import. Stocks will not last!

Its Origins

In a region dominated by co- op's, Mora e Memo stand out for many reasons. This beautiful estate sits high in the hills in the South East of Sardinia just a few kilometres from the sea. Focused on the indigenous Sardinian varieties of Cannonau and Vermentino the combination of mature vineyards, sensitive farming and a delicate touch in their modern and technologically well equipped cellar results in elegant, vibrant mineral wines that are very different from the rustic Sardinian norm. Taking the reins from her father running this small scale winery is Elisabetta, who focusses on producing wine representative of the island terroir, executed in a modern way.

What The Critics Say

91/100 Vinous, Eric Guido (2019 vintage)

"The extroverted and fruit-forward 2019 Cannonau di Sardegna Nau shows ripe strawberries and plums and a balancing note of savory wild herbs. It’s soft and fleshy in feel, matching its noticeable inner sweetness with mineral-tinged red fruits and spices. There’s plenty of energy and depth here despite the front-loaded personality, tapering off floral and unexpectedly fresh."
