Its Origins

Sebastiani is a Sonoma producer with a proud history and, in modern times, a stunning quality-for-value offering across the globe. After immigrating from Tuscany in 1895, Samuele Sebastiani laboured in the Sonoma hills making cobblestones for San Francisco streets. Here he saved the money - and no doubt surveyed the land - for property to make wine for the city’s restaurants. Over the decades Samuele’s son August became one of America’s leading winemakers of his time. August’s children too were successful - so much so that a massive Central valley operation was built up and sold off to refocus on the Sebastiani home label, and two out of three siblings began their own wineries. In 2008 Sebastiani was acquired by the large Foley stable of companies, at which time the already high quality culture was increased steeply, with a reduction in yields on top of a heavy investment in new expertise, oak and technology resulting in both Sonoma and single vineyard wines of almost incomparable quality for the price.

What The Critics Say

Winemaker notes on current 2020 vintage

This wine is a youthful expression of California Cabernet Sauvignon. Aromas of strawberry, red licorice and a touch of fresh mint lead to bright flavors of red cherry, strawberry and sweet cranberry, complemented by soft oak nuances. Our 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon features fruit from select California vineyards that produce full-bodied, concentrated wines. The 2020 season started off with immense potential, with mild spring weather leading to bud break occurring about two weeks earlier than average. Fruit set was balanced to light in most varietals, promising good concentration. A warm to hot summer kept grapes ripening right up to harvest where careful selection of picks and gentle processing were key for success. After a two-day cold soak, the grapes were crushed and fermented at relatively warm temperatures in stainless steel tanks. After pressing, each lot was blended or fined depending on flavor, color and tannin concentration. The wine was aged in a mixture of stainless steel tanks and 2-year old French oak barrels.

92/100 Wine Enthusiast (2019 Vintage)

"Dark fruits and a silky texture combine elegantly in this full-bodied but sleek wine. Ripe black cherries and plump blueberries are lightly accented by mint and cocoa as mild tannins keep it smooth through the finish."
