One of New Zealand's best Pinot Noir wines. This stylish drop showcases the potential of Marlborough Pinot, as well as the sheer experience of these old hands in the region. While it is no fruit bomb, it has generous lushness and a fine, supple texture. Low intervention viticulture and indigenous yeast winemaking make this a world class wine for an ordinary price. Its Origins

Dog Point Vineyard combines the considerable winegrowing experience of Ivan Sutherland and James Healy, the former chief viticulturalist and head winemaker at Cloudy Bay. After leaving Cloudy Bay, Ivan and James began making wines from Sutherland's own vineyards, which were planted in the 70's and 80's. Additional fruit is sourced from selected vineyard plantings dating back to the late 1970's. The first vintage with the Dog Point label was 2004, using 2002 fruit. Over 200 hectares of vines are farmed, with sustainable/organic practices.

What The Critics Say

94/100 James Suckling

"Strawberries, flint, caramel, minerals and terra-cotta character, as well as fresh tea. Medium-bodied, this has crunchy fruit, crushed flowers and a fine and polished finish. Delicate and delicious with some weight. From organically grown grapes. Old vines planted in 1983. Drink now. Screw cap."

93/100 Stephen Wong MW

"Blackberry, cola and dark smoky notes reluctantly emerge on the nose of this young, closed wine. The palate is equally restrained; the fairly concentrated dark fruit only appearing towards the back as it rises above the serious, chocolaty tannins and wood. Compact, really quite oaky and backward, this does have sneaky length and under the fine structure is plenty of promise and perfume. Give it a couple of years in the cellar to integrate, and watch it bloom 29 Jan 2025." Drink 2027 - 2037

91+/100 The Wine Front, Campbell Mattinson

"This is heavier on oak than you’d like or expect it to be but when it settles down, and in, it will be complex and lovely. Strawberries, deep black cherries, chicory, cedarwood and peppercorn notes blend into violets, roasted meats and toasted spices. There’s a chunkiness to the tannin and a general impression of substance. It’s needs a bit of a sleep." Drink 2027 - 2032+
