2024 Pegasus Bay Aria Riesling (Late Harvest) 750ml

A gorgeous lighter dessert wine from Waipara masters, Pegasus Bay. Grapes from a cool, mineral-rich vineyard were picked at advanced levels of ripeness, while retaining the giving zingy flavours and acidity to balance the luscious honey, marmalade and floral characters. Enjoy with lighter/fruit desserts or, like French Sauternes, before the meal. At 750mls this equals two bottles of 375ml sticky, so mathematicians may well note the stunning value on offer here.

Riesling

Its Origins

Located in arguably New Zealand's most exciting wine region of North Canterbury (more specifically, Waipara), albeit sparsely scattered with wine estates it is at the forefront of interesting and unique wines in NZ. This is due in part to a fabulous free-draining, well protected terroir. Pegasus Bay is run by the Donaldson family who were pioneers in the region and have been involved with local grape growing and winemaking since the 1970's. The whole family are involved in the process from grape to bottle, and a deep respect for the land, with a long term view towards vine and soil health typifies the Donaldson Family's approach to grape growing. Pegasus Bay is an accredited member of the NZWG sustainable viticulture program and are firm believers of using natural methods to combat pests and diseases rather than the application of unnecessary pesticides and herbicides.

What The Critics Say

96/100 Raymond Chan Reviews, Candice Chow

"The nose is elegant and fragrant, with aromas of stonefruit, citrus, frangipani, jasmine, honey and spice. Medium-bodied, sweet to taste, with aromas of apricot, ripe peach and mandarin entwined with honey, jasmine, frangipani and ginger. The flavour is detailed and vivid, complex yet elegant, with a creamy mouthfeel and impeccable tension and balance. This Riesling is engaging, expressive and refined. Match with pan-seared foie gras and cheese soufflé over the next 10+ years. Only made in exceptional years, hand selected, fermented cool to 12% alc, 92 g/l RS. Mar 2025."

94/100 Cameron Douglas MS

"Taut, youthful, fresh and new, aromas of apple and lemon, ginger and lees. An off-dry expression with sweetness and acidity equal. Flavours of apples and lemons, apple tarte tatin and lime flower all flow into the palate. Taut and very new still so a wine that needs time to settle and develop properly in your cellar. Lovely length and potential with best drinking likely from late 2026 through 2036+."

96/100 Parker's Wine Advocate, Erin Larkin (2023 vintage)

"The 2023 Aria Late Picked Riesling is floral and exotic on the nose, with loquat and white pepper, botrytis and almond kernel, rose petals, a hint of lychee and apple blossom. It's so, so pretty, so complex and very long through the finish. A superb wine. This is a wine to age, although many will drink it early. And you can. But you shouldn't. Sealed under (gold) capsule."
