2024 Riverby Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc

Grape
Sauvignon Blanc
Its Origins
A major factor in Riverby’s success is the total control over all grape production on the single estate vineyard. A significant portion of the vineyard consists of vines with considerable age and this is complemented by slightly younger vines utilising modern clones. This combination of vine age and meticulous clonal selection is readily apparent in the high quality fruit being produced. Vines were first planted in 1989; on land that had previously been used for cropping and sheep farming. Further plantings have continued over the years, until now over 70 hectares are planted out in Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Semillon, and Syrah. The most recent planting is of Gruner Veltliner. As part of Riverby’s focus on viticultural excellence, yields are kept very low and several varieties are hand picked. Sustainable grape-growing techniques are practiced throughout the whole grape-growing and winemaking cycle.
What The Critics Say
94/100 Wine Orbit, Sam Kim
"It's bursting with passionfruit, kiwifruit, crunchy apple, and kaffir lime notes on the nose. The palate is equally enticing with excellent fruit concentration and intensity, splendidly supported by bright acidity, making it flavoursome and highly enjoyable. At its best: now to 2029. $24.00. www.riverbyestate.com. March 2025." Drink 2025 - 2029

"Priced right, the 2024 vintage (****) is a single-vineyard wine, grown at Rapaura, in the Wairau Valley. Bright, light lemon/green, it is mouthfilling and sweet-fruited, with vibrant, passionfruit-like flavours, a hint of green capsicum, and a crisp, dry finish. Full of youthful vigour, it should be at its best 2026+."

"From the 2024 vintage Riverby have put together a very classy, elegant wine. It hints at all those Sauvignon Blanc buzzwords - the elderflower, gooseberry and more tropical mango - but a talcum perfume and delightful peach down finesse comes through most strongly. Through the mid-palate more of that juicy, ripe and mouthwatering stone fruit and a fine and creamy texture. Just 3.8 grams of residual sugar help broaden the finish, but not at the expense of freshness as the acid zips through. The best Sauvignon Blanc yet from Riverby? Just delicious."
