Its Origins
Owner Luigi Moio was born into an historical family of winemakers in Campania dating back to 1880. After an extended stay in France studying viticulture and winemaking, Luigi returned to Italy in 1994 and in addition to teaching at the University of Naples, undertook the task of winemaker at various prestigious Italian wineries. The urge to do his own thing and make the highest quality wines possible in his beloved Campania became too strong to resist and in 2001 his dream was realised and Quintodecimo was born. The estate covers 12 hectares of vineyard, centred on the hill of Mirabella Eclano 420 metres above sea level, where they benefit from warm summers and fresh nights. "This grouping of wines from Luigi Moio boasts some of the very best expressions made in Campania today. I cannot exaggerate my admiration for these efforts made by one of Italy's most celebrated professors of viticulture and enology and his family in the Mirabella Eclano subzone of Avellino. Quintodecimo is a benchmark for Campania wines." (Monica Larner)
What The Critics Say
95/100 Parker's Wine Advocate, Monica Larner (2022 vintage)
"This wine speaks to those who gravitate toward white wines that express themselves with precise lines and lifted aromas of tart citrus fruit, green papaya and crushed oyster shell. There is a pretty salty element to the Quintodecimo 2022 Greco di Tufo Giallo d'Arles that has whiffs of Riesling, or even a Carricante from Sicily's Etna. The Luigi Moio house style prizes volume and texture, and the wine delivers on those fronts with a hint of cinnamon creaminess that comes from partial oak aging on the fine lees."
93/100 Vinous, Eric Guido (2023 vintage)
"Youthfully coy, the 2023 Giallo D'Arles opens with a delicately floral blend of young peaches, pears and hints of confectionary spice. This is silky-smooth yet lifted in feel, with a savory mix of white pit fruits and inner herbal tones that soothe the senses. It leaves a mineral tinge and a twang of sour lime, tapering off dramatically long with a bump of brisk acidity that lights up the palate."
