2024 Pegasus Bay Waipara Riesling

Grape
Riesling
Its Origins
Located in arguably New Zealand's most exciting wine region of North Canterbury (more specifically, Waipara), albeit sparsely scattered with wine estates it is at the forefront of interesting and unique wines in NZ. This is due in part to a fabulous free-draining, well protected terroir. Pegasus Bay is run by the Donaldson family who were pioneers in the region and have been involved with local grape growing and winemaking since the 1970's. The whole family are involved in the process from grape to bottle, and a deep respect for the land, with a long term view towards vine and soil health typifies the Donaldson Family's approach to grape growing. Pegasus Bay is an accredited member of the NZWG sustainable viticulture program and are firm believers of using natural methods to combat pests and diseases rather than the application of unnecessary pesticides and herbicides.
What The Critics Say
95/100 Cameron Douglas MS
"Delicious on the nose and palate, a wine of complexity and purity. Aromas of apples and limes, mineral and honeysuckle, perhaps a lick of botrytis. Delicious, fresh, and dry as the wine touches the palate, with flavours that mirror the bouquet, supported by a backbone of acidity, salivating freshness, and a long finish with lemon peel and mineral notes."
18.5+/20 Candice Chow
"Bright, even, pale yellow. The nose is softly full, with aromas of citrus, apple, blossom and suggestion of tropical fruit. Medium-full bodied, medium-sweet to taste, aromas of mandarin and pineapple melded with honey, blossom, lime leaf and a touch of spice. The opulent mouthfeel is packed with youthful, bright flavours and good energy. The sweetness balances the invigorating acidity and adds dimension and weight to the palate. This Riesling features purity and length, and it is already delicious."
95/100 Wine Orbit
"Gorgeously styled and expressed, the elegantly perfumed bouquet shows pineapple, lemon sorbet, crunchy apple, and rich floral aromas with a hint of spicy overtone. The succulent palate delivers a finely flowing mouthfeel, accompanied by elegant sweetness and bright acidity, finishing in a splendidly harmonious and lingering manner."
