While Stocks Last

2023 Neudorf Rosie's Moutere Chardonnay

Limited stock — get in quick! A lauded expression of Neudorf's wonderful Chardonnay style, this wine was formerly the standard 'Nelson' Chardonnay. With restrained fruit and an effortless chalky-mineral character, this is a delight in style and texture. It is food-friendly but delicious by itself, is approachable now but also worthy of age. The Rosie's block is subject to major demand internationally, so stocks cannot keep up with demand. Grab some while it's here!

Its Origins

Nelson is the sunniest viticultural region in New Zealand. Relatively isolated, it has never developed into large scale production but several wineries have established an excellent reputation for quality. Prime amongst these is Neudorf, created by pioneers Tim & Judy Finn back in the late 1970s. The winery buildings have developed steadily since 1980, and so has the reputation of this excellent producer specialising predominantly in chardonnay and pinot noir. Their flagship wines are designated by the subregion of Moutere. The Neudorf estate, lying on a mix of glacial outwash clay, now represents 12ha, though buys in fruit from a further 30ha (of managed vineyards). The viticulture is sustainable "lutte raisonnée" with organic practices being introduced since 2008. The wines are all made with minimal intervention; hand harvesting, wild yeast, low S02 and soft, supporting oak.

What The Critics Say

95/100 The Wine Front, Mike Bennie

"Clicks and clacks with flinty mineral notes and more creamy, fleshy things. It’s a treat, it drinks beautifully, succulent and refreshing with green apple, ginger, lime, smoky spice elements and exceptional length. The persistence is something, actually. The balance sublime. The wine a treat in all its facets and a sense of fanciness comes about very quickly. And it is tightly wound to boot, showing the finesse of grape and winemaking. Quality here." Drink 2024 - 2033

94/100 Stephen Wong MW

"Cool nose of restrained elderflower, lemonade, apples and wood-smoke with a whiff of sea shell. The palate shows hints of hazelnut alongside the sappy mid-weight flavours of apple, citrus and floral stone-fruit. It is all supported by savoury acidity and an elegant, nutty, salted caramel finish. Innate complexity in a lighter style and although the phenolics are bony, it is not austere. With time in the glass it blossoms into a sophisticated but quietly impressive wine of nuance and detail which will develop at least in the mid-term 11 Oct 2024." Drink 2025 - 2035

94/100 JamesSuckling.com, Claire Nesbitt

"Peaches, apricots, minerals, hazelnuts and lavender on the nose of this fragrant and elegant chardonnay. It’s cool, creamy and medium- to full-bodied with subtle fresh-nut and flint nuances. Long and delicious. From organically grown grapes. Sustainable. Drink now or hold. Screw cap."
