2024 Felton Road Cornish Point Pinot Noir

Grape
Pinot Noir
Its Origins
Felton Road is situated on warm, north facing slopes of glacial loess soils in Bannockburn, in the heart of Central Otago. It dates back to 1991 when Stewart Elms planted the Elms Vineyard on Felton Road. Blair Walter has been winemaker here since 1996, right from the start. The total vineyard area is now at 32 hectares. The modern gravity fed winery receives 100% estate grown fruit from its three vineyards that are all farmed biodynamically and are fully certified by Demeter. Minimal intervention in the winemaking with such practices as wild yeast, no fining or filtration, allow the unique vineyard characters to further express their considerable personality. Since the first vintage in 1997, Felton Road has acquired a formidable worldwide reputation.
What The Critics Say
98/100 Bob Campbell MW (2021 vintage)
"Off to a good start with an intense aroma that is a mix of floral/violet and blackcurrant compote notes. The palate is more complex and very intense with a peacock's tail display of dark cherry, cassis, oriental spices and a whisper of nutty oak. A tangy undercurrent of ripe acidity helps drive a very lengthy finish revealing a wine with real power. Delicious now but will develop well with bottle age. Easy to appreciate."
97/100 Halliday's Wine Companion, Dave Brookes (2023 vintage)
"There's a sensual, heady aspect to the aromas on display this year. A little exotic soukiness to the spice profile with hints of dried rose petals, cold tea, meadow wildflowers, sandalwood, drying herbs, distant dried game meats and leaf litter and cocoa-powder suffusing through the ripe red and black cherry and dried raspberry/cranberry fruit tones. Wonderfully weighted and balanced just so with the purest of fruit profiles, a superfine, pillowy cloud of tannin and a bright mineral line. It makes for beautiful drinking now and there is plenty of space for cellaring complexity."
96/100 Cameron Douglas MS (2023 vintage)
"A fabulous bouquet of wild red flowers and ripe dark red berry fruits of raspberry and new season Otago cherries. There’s layers of earth and mineral from sand to white clay then spices from barrel and fruit. A complex an engaging wine on the palate with core flavours of spice and berries, forest flowers and a distinctive mineral earthy complexity. Fine and delicious, taut, and youthful with a fine squeeze and tension. A wine that will stand the test of time in your cellar, look after it."
