Felton's Bannockburn is a revered and iconic label. Terms like "biodynamic", "zero waste", and "gravity fed" don't nearly capture the gravitas and quality of this wine. Packed with elegant and yet concentrated flavours of berries as well as spices, florals as well savoury minerals, this is an extraordinary Central Otago Pinot Noir. It won't last, so don't dally.

Its Origins

Felton Road is situated on warm, north facing slopes of glacial loess soils in Bannockburn, in the heart of Central Otago. It dates back to 1991 when Stewart Elms planted the Elms Vineyard on Felton Road. Blair Walter has been winemaker here since 1996, right from the start. The total vineyard area is now at 32 hectares. The modern gravity fed winery receives 100% estate grown fruit from its three vineyards that are all farmed biodynamically and are fully certified by Demeter. Minimal intervention in the winemaking with such practices as wild yeast, no fining or filtration, allow the unique vineyard characters to further express their considerable personality. Since the first vintage in 1997, Felton Road has acquired a formidable worldwide reputation.

What The Critics Say

97/100 Bob Campbell MW (2022 vintage)

"Deliciously fragrant and intense floral aroma that follows on to the palate where it is joined by cassis, dark cherry, black Doris plum, vanilla, savoury dried herbs and mixed spice and anise flavours. This could is the best Bannockburn pinot noir that I can recall tasting. It has an ethereal texture and a backbone of fine tannins. Absolutely delicious wine!"

95/100 Cameron Douglas MS (2021 vintage)

"Purity and finesse, core varietal scents of dark cherry, violet and gun-flint, there’s a quiet smokiness from the barrel along with a five spice quality then a distinctive mineral and earth quality adding complexity and sense of place. A light dried herb and savoury quality reflect the rugged background these vineyards sites are exposed to. Perfect on the palate with a new youthful mouthfeel with textures from tannins and fruit, a fine savoury mineral quality and youthful energy. Chalky tannins and acidity .set the framework for fruit and barrel flavours. There’s a completeness about this wine with a heart of pinosity and charm. Excellent drinking early if you must, but wll also age and be equally delicious from 2025 through 2035."
