2022 Voyager Estate Chardonnay

94 Points The Wine Front

A seriously good Chardonnay from Margaret River. Voyager are not only in a region famous for the varietal, but are renowned for their specialised and premium Chardonnay's. Much like one of our major customer favourites, Vasse Felix, this blend from across Voyager's superb vineyards is able to capture -- at a very reasonable price -- much of the depth and appeal for which their $100 plus Chardonnay labels are known. A must for lovers of both Kiwi and Aussie Chardies.
$49.99 in mixed 6+ or $55.99 per bottle

Its Origins

Voyager Estate is a premium producer in Margaret River, Western Australia. The late mining magnate Michael Wright pursued several avenues of business and agriculture before setting his sights on owning a vineyard and winery. It was thus an easy decision when he was able to buy what was then called Freycinet Estate from founder and leading viticulturist Peter Gherardi in 1991. Peter had established the vineyard in '78, and it was significantly expanded by Michael over the ensuing years. Apart from the Cape Dutch- style tasting room and vast rose garden, the signpost for the estate is the massive Australian flag pole - after Parliament House in Canberra, the largest flag pole in Australia. Michael's daughter, Alexandra Burt, has been at the helm of Voyager Estate for many years, supported by general manager Chris Furtado and a long-serving and committed staff.

What The Critics Say

94/100 The Wine Front, Gary Walsh

"Peach, fresh pineapple, pink grapefruit, fine spicy cedar oak, a little ginger. Bright, good line of acidity, pink grapefruit and Japanese ginger, light creaminess, and a long and spicy finish. Zesty. Looked quite juicy and a little oaky initially, but given time it settled down very nicely, so perhaps leave it alone for another year or two." Drink 2024 - 2031+

93/100 The Real Review, Aaron Brasher

"Plenty of citrus, stone fruit, nougat and melon skin lift on the nose, complex, layered and inviting. Powerful, full flavoured and with real purpose on the palate. There's a core of stone fruit, grapefruit pith and nougat flavours along with nutty oak and punchy acidity. Lovley texture, length and mouth-feel 07 OCT 2023." Drink 2023 - 2030

93/100 James Suckling

"Aromas of white peach, mango, white almond, praline and a hint of cedar. Medium- to full-bodied, dense and firm on the palate, yet fresh, with steady acidity and mineral backbone. Hints of seashell, walnut and spice on the finish. From organically grown grapes. Sustainable. Drink or hold. Screw cap."
