Its Origins

Located in arguably New Zealand's most exciting wine region of North Canterbury (more specifically, Waipara), albeit sparsely scattered with wine estates it is at the forefront of interesting and unique wines in NZ. This is due in part to a fabulous free-draining, well protected terroir. Pegasus Bay is run by the Donaldson family who were pioneers in the region and have been involved with local grape growing and winemaking since the 1970's. The whole family are involved in the process from grape to bottle, and a deep respect for the land, with a long term view towards vine and soil health typifies the Donaldson Family's approach to grape growing. Pegasus Bay is an accredited member of the NZWG sustainable viticulture program and are firm believers of using natural methods to combat pests and diseases rather than the application of unnecessary pesticides and herbicides.

What The Critics Say

95/100 Wine Orbit, Sam Kim

"Richly styled with gorgeous complexity, showing grilled pineapple, mango, grapefruit, roasted hazelnut, and flinty characters on the nose. The palate delivers terrific weight and fleshy texture, wonderfully supported by beautifully pitched acidity, finishing impressively long and expansive." Drink 2025 - 2034

94/100 Cameron Douglas MS

"A fabulous wine with classic Pegasus Bay signatures of power and complexity, oak and and myriad fruit ideas. Aromas and flavours of stone and citrus fruits, especially peach and grapefruit, some melon and baked pineapple. Full-bodied on the palate with fruit, alcohol and tannins all contributing to mouthfeel and style. Delicious, flavourful and very moor-ish. Best drinking day from day of purchase through 2030." Drink 2025 - 2030

94/100 James Suckling

"Rich and reduced notes of lemon confit, gunsmoke, river stones and grapefruit. The medium-bodied palate has a fine acidity and a slight phenolic edge from a small amount of skin contact, giving notes of orange blossoms, honeysuckle and lanolin. Powerful with an underlying freshness. Drink or hold. Screw cap."
