Its Origins

Once a trading village established in 1842, this remarkable place is a captivating pocket of Australia’s wine and vine history that is a must when visiting the Barossa. Owned by the Lindner family, whose own mark on the Barossa spans six-generations of farming, food, community and wine, Langmeil is renowned for its preservation of old vines and the making of distinguished wines from these cherished sites. At the pinnacle of its winemaking is The Freedom 1843 Shiraz, made from what is understood to be the world’s oldest surviving shiraz vineyard believed planted in 1843 at the heart of this historical patch of Barossa earth.

What The Critics Say

92/100 Vinous, Angus Hughson

"The 2022 Shiraz Hangin' Snakes showcases the qualities of the vintage with its enticing and seamless aromas of Christmas cake, dark chocolate and baked earth that draw you in. Vibrant and fresh, it offers a streamlined, generous and subtle experience, with chewy tannins over a lengthy finish." Drink 2025 - 2031

92/100 The Real Review, Aaron Brasher

"A dark, youthful and opaque red in the glass. Heady aromas of plum, mulberry, sweet spice, licorice and cola. Rich, fleshy and mouth-filling, with lashings of stewed plum, dark cherry and chocolate flavours at play. The tannins and acidity support the opulent fruit admirably. Smart value 08 Jul 2024." Drink 2024 - 2034

90/100 Halliday's Wine Companion, Dave Brookes

"Deep crimson in the glass with aromas of satsuma plum, black cherry and blackberry fruits with hints of fruitcake spice, brandied fruits, earth, licorice, dark chocolate, tapenade and cedar. Plush black fruits, a sense of freshness from bright acidity and fine, powdery tannins as the wine trails off." Drink 2024 - 2032
