2022 Brennan Gibbston Chardonnay

94 Points Richard Caro
In stock
A gorgeous Chardonnay from a boutique Central Otoago producer. The cooler climes of Gibbston Valley provide Brennan with an ideal climate for Chardonnay, with the long ripening period allowing the development of the grape's lush and ripe flavours. Fermented in oak and chestnut before a year aging on lees, the Brennan is a rich and complex example of the Central style. Try it!

Its Origins

The Brennan Family first arrived in New Zealand from Ireland on the SS Otaki in 1877. Sean Brennan's father, Dr. Sir Murray Brennan, was born in Auckland and studied medicine at the University of Otago. He was always drawn to Central Otago and the family first purchased land here in the 1970’s. In 1994, the Brennan family bought a plot of land in Gibbston and began establishing the vineyard, planting some of the first vines in this region, and haven’t looked back.

What The Critics Say

Winemaker notes on current 2022 vintage

"Baking spice and caramel lead the way into this bolder style Chardonnay.  Stone fruits, poached pear and lemon curd biscuit on the palate are supported by luscious notes of vanilla custard and crisp acidity. "

94/100 Cameron Douglas MS (2015 Vintage)

"Pristine and pure fruit bouquet with a medley of aromas including lemon and white peach then white flower, mineral and sulphide driven complexity, fine and obvious oak tones. On the palate - dry, firm, mineral and citrus flavours; crisp apple and peach moments add to the drive and ambitous textures; plenty of cool climate acidity, some newish oak moments and wood spice layers; the textures are an integral player on the palate, tannins inlcuded - bringing together many of the finer elements and finish."
