Wine Enthusiast named his winery Europe’s best in 2011, but Gerard Bertrand began as a rugby player representing France and Narbonne. It wasn’t until the early death of his father that he returned to take the reigns of the family operation, Domaine de Villemajou in Boutenac, Corbieres. He soon identified the potential of the Languedoc-Roussillon to produce rich yet bright, modern wines suited to world market trends and from there began acquiring labels and properties across the region. Balancing an organic and increasingly biodynamic viticulture with an evangelical zeal for exporting his Mediterranean ‘Art de Vivre’, Gerard Bertrand has quickly become one of the most important champions of that which epitomises Southern French wine of today: superb quality in quantity.

"The 2020 Gérard Bertrand Heritage 560 is an excellent value Côtes du Roussillon-Villages. Dry and full-bodied, this vibrant red is produced from a blend of Syrah, Grenache, and Carignan grapes sourced from vines growing in pebbly and limestone soils. Look for ripe dark fruits, dark cherry, smoky garrigue herbs and pepper spice flavours concentrated on the palate. Enjoy with roast chicken, rare steak, rustic stew, game pot pie."
