Its Origins

"Bodegas Frontonio is the personal project of young gun Fernando Mora MW, hailing from the Valdejalón appellation (technically an IGP, not a DO) of Aragón. These scintillating wines are some of the very best being made today east of Rioja and west of Conca, and they’re already garnering effusive praise from both Luis Gutiérrez and Jancis Robinson. Best of all, prices are very fair for the high quality—and the quality begins in the vineyard: Mora and his team own fifty hectares of beautiful old bushvines in rocky clay-limestone selected for high altitude and north-facing exposition to emphasize freshness. And although this is Garnacha country (Aragón, in fact, is thought to be the birthplace of Garnacha), the whites are every bit as fascinating and delicious as the red." Skurnik Wines

What The Critics Say

93+/100 RobertParker.com, Luis Gutierrez

"The 2020 Telescópico Garnacha · Garnacha Peluda · Mazuela was cropped from a rainy year and had a similar vinification and élevage as the 2021 I tasted next to it—80% full clusters, indigenous yeasts and 12 to 14 months in 500-liter barrels and 2,500-liter oak vats. It's a little more Mediterranean and riper but without excess, a vintage with more fruit, and it's juicy and has fine tannins. 19,283 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2022." Drink 2023 - 2028

17/20 Jancis Robinson

"Mid pillar-box red with some evolution at the rim. Lots of charm and charisma on the nose. Mild, sweet and mellow on the palate. But still with the freshness and mineral undertow that characterises this producer. Quite long. Drink 2023-2028"

92/100 John Gilman

"The 2020 Telescópico Tinto from Bodegas Frontonio is made from an intriguing cépages of garnacha, garnacha peluda and mazuelo, with all of the vines in excess of fifty years of age. The wine includes eighty percent whole clusters in this vintage, with the bunches foot-trodden and the wine raised for just over a year in a combination of oak barrels and foudres. The wine offers fine depth and complexity on the nose, wafting from the glass in a mix of dark berries, fruitcake, hung game, fallen leaves, coffee grounds, dark soil tones and a topnote of woodsmoke. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, black fruity and peppery, with a fine core of fruit, good soil signature, well-integrated tannins and a long, complex, well balanced and meaty finish. Good juice. 2032- 2060."
