2019 Dog Point Marlborough Section 94 Sauvignon Blanc

Grape
Sauvignon Blanc
Its Origins
Dog Point Vineyard combines the considerable winegrowing experience of Ivan Sutherland and James Healy, the former chief viticulturalist and head winemaker at Cloudy Bay. After leaving Cloudy Bay, Ivan and James began making wines from Sutherland's own vineyards, which were planted in the 70's and 80's. Additional fruit is sourced from selected vineyard plantings dating back to the late 1970's. The first vintage with the Dog Point label was 2004, using 2002 fruit. Over 200 hectares of vines are farmed, with sustainable/organic practices.
What The Critics Say
96/100 The Real Review, Stephen Wong MW
"A complex nose of zesty citrus notes interwoven with vanilla, ground spice, flint, sweet wood and nutty development while retaining freshness and vibrancy right to the exotically perfumed, long finish where saline minerality kicks in. Lovely creamy texture and depth with oak, acidity and fruit all in balance. It will continue to age well for a few years. A spectacular wild-fermented, judiciously oaked Marlborough sauvignon which is as good as it gets 10 Dec 2024." Drink 2024 - 2029
95/100 James Suckling
"Flinty, reductive notes open up to lime zest, white grapefruit, dried pineapple, hay, white pepper and hints of praline. Medium-bodied with sharp acidity and a phenolic, tight and taut palate. Focused and long. Drink or hold. Screw cap."
