A lovely wine (and now with a nice discount) from serious Central Otago players, Carrick. Thier longstanding ethos of organic winemaking has allowed them to strike out with a beautiful label or two of natural wine. Made without sulphites or additives by strictly non-intervention methods, this wine offers a sort of sophisticated simplicity in which the bright juicy fruit doesn't feel too crafted, retaining a nice directness within its flow of linear acidity and fine tannins. Not rustic but a celebration of the natural elements in wine, Carrick's love letter ('Billet-Doux') is an adventurous and charming wine experience. No sulphites added.

Pinot Noir

Its Origins

Carrick is an integrated organic vineyard, winery, restaurant and cellar door in Bannockburn Central Otago. Known for their quality premium Pinot Noir, Carrick also grows and makes Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc; wines noted for their fruit expression and clarity. Steve Green, the owner-manager of Carrick, the viticulturist, the winemaker and the chef brings understanding and experience to making fine wine and food. This pride is reflected in the care of the vineyard and environment – Carrick has a flock of free range hens, giant compost heaps and a community garden, all part of the Carrick philosophy.

What The Critics Say

93/100 and rated "Excellent", Cameron Douglass MS

"A very inviting complex bouquet with aromas evenly divided between soil and fruit, oak and synergies. Dark cherry flesh, black raspberry, spiced plum then baking spices and smoky wood, sandy hard stone soils then a dark velvet rose complexity. Firm velvety tannins, plenty of acidity, core of fruit and youthful tension adding to the mouthfeel collectively deliver a wine of youth, power, region, personality and length. Best drinking from late 2022 through 2028+." Drink 2022 - 2028+

Otago Daily Times, Mark Henderson

"Fascinating nose, humus, a wild and feral quality; delicious purity of fruit. Silky and textural entry with a little prickle on the tongue, showcasing loganberry, plum and wood smoke with nice chewiness from the tannins. Time adds dark chocolate and charcuterie to the brightness and vivacity, while the tannins are very fine. Rather delicious. No sulphur added."

93/100 NZ Wine Writer

"A youthful, vibrant, complex wine on the nose with abundant aromas of blackberry-tart, grilled Mediterranean vegetables, and freshly-picked mushrooms. Quite full-flavoured, and chewy on the palate - energetic, and lively with soft but slightly earthy, pithy tannins, and salivating acid"
