2019 Amisfield Otago Dry Riesling

93 Points Richard Caro
In stock
Hand-harvested and delicately made, this dry Riesling was fermented naturally and given some aging on yeast lees to add the texture and roundness to make it delicious young, if you just can't wait. Otherwise every bit as fresh, vibrant and minerally as you could hope for this great example of dry Central Otago Riesling.

Its Origins

Amisfield was established in 1988, a Central Otago based specialist producer of pinot noir and aromatic white wines created from fruit grown on the estate vineyard beneath the Pisa Mountain range in the Cromwell Basin. This privately owned company's 200ha property, once a prominent high country merino station, is one of the largest single vineyard estates in the Central Otago region. Over 80ha is currently planted with the majority of the vines being over ten years old. A state-of-the-art purpose built winery is the focal point of the vineyard and produces 20,000 -30,000 cases of wine annually. Pinot Noir accounts for over 60% of the production with the balance made up of Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Riesling.

What The Critics Say

Winemaker notes on current 2019 vintage

"A flinty minerality leads to a palate with citrus zest, green apple, florals and a brilliant rush of lively acidity."

94/100 Bob Campbell MW (2017 vintage)

"Delicately aromatic riesling with lime, citrus, mandarin and white flower (rose?) flavours. Beautifully pure wine with a hint of oyster shell and mineral character. Quite a textural wine - dry, but not austere with a backbone of fruity acidity 7/12/2018"
