A sophisticated Chardonnay from the lime-clay hillsides of Wairarapa. Like its Pinot stablemate, this super-elegant white benefits from ideal soils and elevated aspect to produce a weighty but refined, beautifully handled Burgundy style. With deep citrus nuanced by harmonious mineral and mealy notes, this new Chardonnay is delicious now and for a good few years.

Its Origins

"Lime Hill Vineyard is the joint wine venture of Karl Johner of Johner Estate at Gladstone with his winemaker Raphael Burki. The small vineyard is close-planted to a density of 6,000 vines per ha, on limestone soil with a thin layer of clay topsoil, and has 0.4 ha of predominantly Mendoza clone Chardonnay and 0.9 ha of Pinot Noir, clones, 667, 777, 115, 10/5, Abel and 5, established in 2013. The hillside vineyard, east of Masterton sits at 280 m.a.s.l. and clearly designed to follow the burgundy model." -- Raymond Chan

What The Critics Say

96/100 Bob Campbell MW

"Deliciously moreish chardonnay with purity and subtle power. Attractive citrus, chalk, and subtle stone fruit flavours with a seasoning of ginger, cashew nut and spicy oak. A taut, refined wine with appealing fruit sweetness and a very lengthy finish. 7/8/2019" Drink 2019 - 2026
