Its Origins
Amisfield was established in 1988, a Central Otago based specialist producer of pinot noir and aromatic white wines created from fruit grown on the estate vineyard beneath the Pisa Mountain range in the Cromwell Basin. This privately owned company's 200ha property, once a prominent high country merino station, is one of the largest single vineyard estates in the Central Otago region. Over 80ha is currently planted with the majority of the vines being over ten years old. A state-of-the-art purpose built winery is the focal point of the vineyard and produces 20,000 -30,000 cases of wine annually. Pinot Noir accounts for over 60% of the production with the balance made up of Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Riesling. This wine is made from 9 clones of pinot noir and grown on several different soil types, adding complexity to the wine.
What The Critics Say
Winemaker notes on current 2018 vintage
"Laden with plush red and purple
fruit flavours that are characteristic
of our Pisa site. The warmth of
the year has brought an extra
level of opulence to this wine, and
highlighted the silky, fine tannin
in the mouth. This wine has great
length on the palate and will reward
for many years to come."
96/100 Bob Campbell MW (2017 vintage)
"Limited edition wine made from a selection of the best barrels. More intense but with similarly bright, vibrant acidity than the regular label. Plum, dark berry, cherry flavours are flattered by spicy oak. A powerful pinot noir with cellaring potential. 11 OCT 2019." Drink 2019 - 2027
