37% Cabernet Franc, 21% Merlot, 16% Petit Verdot, 15% Malbec and 11% Cabernet Sauvignon
First planted in 1993, at the eastern end of Waiheke Island, Man O’ War consists of 150 acres of vines planted in 76 individual hillside blocks, each with a distinct soil profile and microclimate.
Every single block bears the footprints, and sometimes the names, of those who transformed Man O’ War’s rugged hillsides into a spectacular patchwork of vines. Helmed by winemaker Duncan McTavish and vineyard manager Matt Allen, the wines represent a legacy of preservation and great respect for the land and its history.
What The Critics Say
93/100 Bob Campbell MW
"A blend of cabernet franc, merlot, petit verdot, cabernet sauvignon and malbec. Lighter and more forward than the previous vintage, with a pleasing savoury edge and greater floral influence. Quite an elegant wine that's surprisingly accessible now. 05 MAR 2020." Drink 2020 - 2024
93/100 Carmeron Douglas MS
"Really decent bouquet of dark berries and plums, blackberries and cocoa, violet and wood smoke, marmite and toasty wood. On the palate - weighty, rich, fruity, woody and tasty. Flavours reflect the nose with the plums and dark berries, dark brown spices of oak and toasty wood, a vanilla and clove layer. Firm tannins, medium+ acidity, great balance and length. A classic M-O-War wine. Drink now and through 2023." Drink 2020 - 2023
