2016 Roederer Vintage Champagne

Grape
70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay
Its Origins
Louis Roederer, a wonderful family-owned Champagne house founded in 1776, has a tremendous reputation for quality. The Louis Roederer House has remained an independent, family-owned company and is now managed by Frédéric Rouzaud, who represents the seventh generation of the lineage. 80% of the firm's needs are supplied by their own, magnificent, 444 acres of vineyard holdings. Louis Roederer's Pinot Noir based non-vintage Brut Premier is powerful and richly-honeyed and is far superior to most other producers` vintage Champagnes. In 1876 Louis Roederer created the now famous Cristal, at the request of Alexander II. This once intensely sweet wine is now one of the most luscious, deeply flavoured champagnes available, with the '88, '89 and '90 among the greatest Cristals ever released.
What The Critics Say
97/100 Huon Hooke
"Mid-light straw colour, the slight brassy tint showing the red grapes in the blend; the bouquet loaded with aromas of bread-crust, dried herb and small flowers, hints of dried citrus fruits and fresh lemon. The palate is brightly crisp and frisky, very dry and with energising acidity. It borders on austerity thanks to the acidity, while there is also rich nutty, toasty mouth-filling flavour to balance. A bracing wine that cries out for food. 28 Jul 2024." Drink 2024 – 2032
96/100 James Suckling
"Complex nose of restrained strawberries and lemon zest, with macerated flowers and shortbread. Full body and plenty of concentration, with pinprick mousse, long and chewy, integrated acidity and amazing length. Pinot noir and chardonnay. Drink or hold."
95/100 Wine Enthusiast, Roger Voss
"Produced from the first vineyard acquired by Roederer in 1841, this Champagne shows the beginnings of maturity as well as ripe, fresh apple fruit flavors. An aroma of toast mingled with kiwi fruits gives a finely balanced wine now ready to drink."
