Its Origins
The Haag family has been in wine for just a little while - since 1605, to be precise - and over that time they have been instrumental in the development of Brauneberger, an area that has been recognised as one of the Mosel’s best since the sixth century. At the helm today is the youthful Oliver Haag, whose father Wilhelm (son of Fritz) became recognised as a Riesling world leader, awarded the deceptively simple title of Winegrower of the Year in 1994. Oliver himself has at his back a full oenological training as well as extensive experience with a number of leading Riesling producers. With results so superb they effectively define a modern classic style of Mosel Riesling, it seems clear that the Haag family’s future in wine may be as sure as it’s past.

"Deep nose of pear, sage and spice. Generous and crisp with plenty of structure on the medium-bodied palate. Quite some herbal and wet stone complexity at the long cool finish. This replaces the dry Brauneberger Riesling and is a cuvee of 80% Juffer, plus small quantities from the steep Juffer-Sonnenuhr and Klostergarten sites. Drink or hold."

"The 2022 Riesling Brauneberg J Erste Lage was primarily harvested from parcels across Brauneberger Juffer and the rest from Juffer Sonnenuhr and Brauneberger Klostergarten. It comes with a slight yeasty funk on the nose. Underneath sits very aromatic tart yet ripe apple fruit slowly verging into riper stone fruit. The clear-cut palate has a zesty edge and mouth-watering flow. The concentrated body displays vivid stoniness, again almost austere, with a precise and textured finish. Fine acidity pervades all. Fermented in both steel and wood. (Dry). Drink 2023-2045"
