2022 Noon Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

94 Points James Suckling
In stock
A boutique legend, the Noon Reserve Cabernet uses the cooler, long-ripening climate of Langhorne Creek to achieve a huge depth of lush, defined fruit. Such voluptuousness makes it drinkable now, while an expertly crafted balance of acids and ripe tannin structures supports a serious life in cellar. From two blocks on deep alluvial clay loam soils, planted in 1972 and 1999. A darling of the world market, Noon's Reserve Cabernet has received many 95+ point scores from Parker's Wine Advocate including two 98s. It sells out, so grab it while you can!

Its Origins

The Noon family’s winemaking on their McLaren Vale property had been local and slightly under the radar. But when the property went up for sale, son Drew Noon MW returned from winemaking work at Tyrrells and Cassegrain, and then as a jobbing winemaker in Victoria, to take over the reigns. Combining the simplicity and artisan directness of his father’s basket-press approach with his newfound skills in crafting wine to the highest market standards, Drew’s work ethic heavily overcompensated for what they lacked in backing. With continuing access to old vines in Langhorne Creek’s highly favourable climate, Noon wines soon won the attention of Robert Parker and international acclaim was to follow. While remaining full-bodied, hedonistic reds of the old school tradition, Noon wines’ combination of extreme approachability with distinctive authenticity and character has ensured them an enduring position at the premium level of Australian winemaking.

What The Critics Say

94/100 JamesSuckling.com, Ned Goodwin MW

"A rich cabernet that nevertheless remains light on its feet, offering a savory swathe of olive brine, estuary, dried sage, gum leaf and damson. A kit of svelte tannins are flecked with a verdant lilt of garden herb across the sumptuous, quintessentially Australian finish. The sort of wine that one can tuck into straight away, although will reward aging. Drink or hold. Screw cap."

95/100 Vinous, Angus Hughson (2021 Vintage)

"The 2021 Reserve is very stylish and carries its 15.1% alcohol with remarkable ease. It delivers dense elemental aromas of cassis and dried herbs, savory complexity from extended oak maturation and excellent fruit purity and focus. A superb tannin backbone defines the palate, with waves of dark fruits showing surprising focus before baked earth and roasted meat complexities elevate the finish. The 2021 is unique and impressive." Drink 2026 - 2035

95/100 Parker's Wine Advocate, Joe Czerwinski (2018 vintage)

"After not producing this wine in 2017, Noon's 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve delivers scents of mint, sage and bay leaf layered atop a deep bed of bold cassis. Full-bodied, jammy and rich, this is plush and velvety on the palate without being overly soft—the intrinsic structure of Cabernet keeps it focused despite the ripeness, prolonging the finish for what seems like many minutes. Aged in approximately one-third new French oak, you'll note that my review contains no mention of cedar or vanilla—the wood has been judged impeccably and virtually disappears into the wine."
