A new release from the Mosel Legend, Fritz Haag. The Monzeler Katzchen catches the morning rays with its East and North-east aspect, where vines on mixed soils based on Devonian clay slate lie at a sunny 54 degrees. A wine of lovely texture and depth, the Katzchen GG is a great addition the range and Riesling to drink soon or cellar!

Its Origins

The Haag family has been in wine for just a little while - since 1605, to be precise - and over that time they have been instrumental in the development of Brauneberger, an area that has been recognised as one of the Mosel’s best since the sixth century. At the helm today is the youthful Oliver Haag, whose father Wilhelm (son of Fritz) became recognised as a Riesling world leader, awarded the deceptively simple title of Winegrower of the Year in 1994. Oliver himself has at his back a full oenological training as well as extensive experience with a number of leading Riesling producers. With results so superb they effectively define a modern classic style of Mosel Riesling, it seems clear that the Haag family’s future in wine may be as sure as it’s past.

What The Critics Say

94/100 JamesSuckling.com, Stuart Pigott

“Wonderfully spicy and ethereal nose with plenty of white tree fruit aromas. Good substance and well-integrated structure on the medium-bodied palate. The spring-like freshness keeps this light on its feet through the long elegant finish. Drink or hold.”

91-93/100 Vinous, Anne Krebiehl MW

"The 2022 Riesling Monzeler Katzchen Grosses Gewachs is from the steep site neighboring the Juffersitting above the Paulinshofberg. Just its heartland was classified as Grosse Lage. The nose has hints of moss blended with fragrant and subtle fruit. The palate is lean: the dryness pronounces citrus and earthiness, with an understated texture containing edges of pith. The slender body channels more and more citrus, along with some citrus foliage. Very clean-cut, characterized by both green and yellow citrus. Very linear and taut. (Bone-dry). Drink 2025-2050"
