Its Origins
Today the Burgundian wine domaine of Bouchard Pere et Fils can trace its origins back to 1731, though it is no longer family owned. In 1995 the Champagne house Joseph Henriot acquired the company and quality has risen as a consequence. Bouchard is led by Stéphane Follin Arbelet, while the wines are made by Philippe Prost - who has been with the company since 1978. An impressive gravity-flow winery on the Route de Savigny, the Cuvérie St Vincent, was completed in 2005 and enables them to process all their wines with optimum efficiency. Bouchard’s total holdings comprise 130 hectares, including 12ha of grand crus and 74ha of premier crus, which makes them the largest vineyard owners in the Côte d’Or.

"At mid-slope underneath the Montagne Saint-Désiré near the southern extremity of the appellation, Bouchard has almost two hectares on this relatively flat site with marly soil that ripens fruit well. There is a nice balance between the apricot and citrus tendencies on the nose, which is less marked by the wood, yet still reveals spice, hazelnut, and brioche notes. The texture is dense without being in any way heavy." Drink 2023 - 2040

"This rich and generous white Beaune has a full apricot aroma, but also touches of pineapple, flint and toast. Mouth-filling and fleshy, but with freshness that extends into every nook and cranny of your mouth. Excellent tension at the finish, thanks to the complex mineral and herbal notes. A 1.9 hectare monopoly site of the estate. Picked early in 2020 to preserve acidity. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold."

"Fine fresh pale lemon. The bouquet has a delicacy yet with intensity that is very classy. This site really does work well in white. There is nothing like the weight of a Clos des Mouches but there is a striking elegance with an underlying tensile strength. Pure ripe lemon notes to finish."
