2022 Gran Vinum Nessa Albarino
Grape
Albarino
Its Origins
"The Piñeiro Cores family has grown wine for generations. They began by cultivating small vineyards, then gradually reorganized and replaced the original grape variety with Albariño grapes on small plots of land across the Rias Baixas region. Adegas Gran Vinun was created in 2002 to continue the family style, and currently produces Albariño wines which are included in the D.O. Rias Baixas. Adegas Gran Vinun’s vineyards are ideally located on hillsides overlooking the Umia River and the Ría de Arosa near Cambados in the Pontevedra province, Galicia." (Skurnik wines)
What The Critics Say
90/100 View from the Cellar, John Gilman
"The Nessa cuvée of Albariño from Gran Vinum is also made from younger vines, as these are around twenty years of age. It is handled the same in the cellar as the Mar de Viñas. The 2022 Nessa is bright and expressive aromatically, wafting from the glass in a mix of pear, casaba melon, salty soil tones, white flowers and just a whisper of brininess in the upper register. On the palate the wine is vibrant, fullish and complex, with good depth at the core, bouncy acids, fine focus and a long, well-balanced and classy finish. This does not have the same granitic undertow as the Mar de Viñas bottling and is more floral in personality, but it is every bit as good. 2023-2030+."
91/100 Wine Review Online, Michael Franz (2021 Vintage)
"This is one of four bottlings of Albariño from Adegas Gran Vinum, three of which have just become available from the 2021 vintage. This wine and the “Mar de Viñas” and “Esencia Diviña” bottlings will all surely improve with time, as proved both by the track records of earlier vintages and also by the improvement they currently show after being aerated. Coming from Albarino vines roughly 20 years of age, this was aged for two months in stainless steel on the lees prior to bottling. This is a medium-bodied rendition of Albariño with excellent balance between fruit and acidity, recalling just-ripe peaches with a squeeze of citrus acidity and a pleasant tinge of bitterness in the finish. Delicious — as usual."
90/100 Vinous, Josh Raynolds (2020 vintage)
“Brilliant straw. Mineral-tinged orange, pear and floral scents are complemented by a hint of quinine. Shows very good clarity and cut to the juicy citrus and orchard fruit flavors, which deepen on the back half. Lingers with strong, minerally persistence, leaving honeysuckle and orange notes behind."
