Its Origins
The Hunting Lodge is a restaurant, vineyard and winery that was formerly the Matua Wines facility in Kumeu. While the property's history dates to 1868, the current owners’ story goes back to the 1970’s. Good friends of the owners at that time, they frequently helped around the property and watched their children grow up amongst the vines. After purchasing the site in 2016, they have lovingly restored it and are proud to be able to share this beautiful destination with visitors and let the stories continue.
