A classy Marlborough rose that is pretty on the nose but almost dry to the palate. Gold at the NZIWS. Riverby Estate have wonderful holdings of Pinot Noir vines and it is predominantly from these that they have drawn their expertly made Rose. A gorgeous aperitif wine, the Riverby Rose is another super-value option from this overdelivering estate. Try it!

Its Origins

A major factor in Riverby’s success is the total control over all grape production on the single estate vineyard. A significant portion of the vineyard consists of vines with considerable age and this is complemented by slightly younger vines utilising modern clones. This combination of vine age and meticulous clonal selection is readily apparent in the high quality fruit being produced. Vines were first planted in 1989; on land that had previously been used for cropping and sheep farming. Further plantings have continued over the years, until now over 70 hectares are planted out in Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Semillon, and Syrah. The most recent planting is of Gruner Veltliner. As part of Riverby’s focus on viticultural excellence, yields are kept very low and several varieties are hand picked. Sustainable grape-growing techniques are practiced throughout the whole grape-growing and winemaking cycle.

What The Critics Say

94/100 Wine Orbit, Sam Kim

"This is instantly appealing on the nose with watermelon, apricot, crunchy apple and floral aromas. The palate is equally charming, delivering fine flow and smooth texture, wonderfully framed by juicy acidity, making it delicious and highly enjoyable. At its best: now to 2026.

90/100 Tom Cannavan, Black Dog Wines

"And here we go again: though the track record for this wine is not as long as some of the others, the first time I tasted it being the 2022 vintage, for me this rosé steps up a gear. It is literally overflowing with strawberry cup, summer aromas, plenty of floral highlights, rose-hip and lychee (though mostly Pinot Noir, I believe small proportions of aromatic white varieties are blended in). In the mouth a little bit of residual sugar gives it even more of a summery, forget all your troubles character, that buoyant fruit nicely sliced through by a zesty acidity. A fabulous little summer pink to serve well chilled."
